Job Details:

* 13-week assignment with night shifts scheduled 3x12 hours
* Guaranteed 60 hours per 2-week period with the possibility of being called off for one 12-hour shift per 2 weeks
* Patient ratio of 1:4 for bedside RN and 1:6 for CNA
* Co-Care/Virtual Nursing Model utilized on unit - each patient has 1 bedside RN, 1 Virtual RN, and 1 CNA
* Virtual nurse assists remotely with admission, discharge, rounding, education, plans of care, and safety rounds
* Float may be required to lower acuity units, renal care, neuro, and med/surg to meet facility needs
* Weekend coverage may be more frequent than every other weekend based on staffing needs
* Block scheduling not available
* Minimum 1 year of experience required
* First-time travelers accepted
* No on-call required
* Local candidates not accepted - permanent address must be at least 50 miles from facility
* Alaska RN license required; pending license accepted but must be in hand for offer
* Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
* Charting system: Epic (experience required)
* Scrubs provided by facility
* Parking is free
* Special equipment includes Philips Monitors in each room, Massimo Capnography, and Safe Patient Handling Equipment
* Care for a wide variety of patient populations including cardiac (30%), respiratory, neuro, renal, and complex medical/surgical patients
* Cardiac patients may include CHF, MI, S/p TAVR, MVR, pacemaker, cardiac arrhythmia, ACS, and drug load patients
* Respiratory patients may include COPD, asthma exacerbations, trach patients, chronic home ventilator patients, and those requiring high flow nasal cannula and BiPAP
* Overflow coverage for neuro and renal patients as needed
* Complex medical/surgical patients requiring higher level of monitoring including ETOH withdrawal and GIB
* Patients served are adults and geriatrics
* Unit daily census of 36 beds
* Interdisciplinary support available including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and pharmacy

This is an acute care hospital recognized as a Magnet Facility, Level II Trauma Center, and U.S. News & World Report Best Hospital in Alaska. With 407 total staffed beds, this facility provides a high standard of patient care across multiple specialties and disciplines. The PCU unit operates as a stepdown unit from the ICU, utilizing an innovative Co-Care/Virtual Nursing Model to enhance patient care and support bedside clinical staff.
