Opportunity:
RN / Tech - Medical Surgical
Job Details:
* 12-hour night shifts
* Weekend rotation every other weekend; travel pairs are generally allowed to work the same weekend
* No on-call responsibilities
* Holiday expectations: 2 out of 4 holidays as needed
* Facility may call off for 24 hours per contract
* Time off requires manager approval
* RN patient ratio: 1:6-7 on nights
* Tech patient ratio: 1:10-12 on nights
* Patient types include total joints (knees, hips), general medical surgical, appendicitis, colectomies, small bowel, urology, CHF, pneumonia, sepsis, diabetes, and patients with addiction-related conditions
* RN minimum experience: 2 years required
* Tech minimum experience: 1 year required; nursing home experience accepted
* First-time travelers accepted
* RN required certifications: BLS; ACLS preferred
* Tech required certifications: BLS
* Previous Charge RN experience highly preferred; travelers without this experience must be willing to be trained as Charge and work in that capacity as needed
* RN skills required: chest tubes, trachs, drains, wound vacs, IVs, PCAs, epidurals (rare), IV antibiotics, heparin drips; cardiac strip reading and interpretation preferred but not required
* Tech skills required: ADLs, feeding, tray setup, answering call bells, vital signs, blood sugars, ambulating patients, and range of motion
* Charting system: Cerner
* May float to ICU for medical surgical level patients or to ED to assist as helping hands
* Orientation includes general hospital orientation and 1 shift on the unit
* Scrub color: any color, must be professional
* Free parking available

This facility is a 27-bed unit offering comprehensive medical surgical care with robust support services available around the clock. The unit benefits from 24/7 respiratory therapy and hospitalist coverage, centralized telemetry monitoring, and a rapid response team attended by in-house providers, respiratory, ICU and ED charge nurses, and nursing supervisors. The facility utilizes Cerner for charting and maintains a collaborative environment focused on quality patient care.
