RN - Pedi ER

Job Details:

* Work 12-hour shifts with variable shift times: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM, 1:00 PM - 1:30 AM, or 3:00 PM - 3:30 AM
* 13-week assignment
* 36 guaranteed hours per week with 3 twelve-hour shifts per scheduling period
* Rotating weekend schedule required
* No on-call responsibilities
* Minimum 2+ years of emergency department experience required
* Experience working in a pediatric environment required
* Patient ratio of 3:1 in a 36-bed unit plus 2 trauma rooms
* Required certifications: BLS, PALS or ENPC, TNCC
* Active Texas RN license required - temporary licenses are not accepted
* Documentation system: Meditech (experience preferred)
* Use standard ER equipment specific to pediatric patient management
* Perform procedures including IV insertions, in and out catheterizations, and medication reconciliation
* Float policy: first to float to ED holds or inpatient as needed - travelers are required to float per facility floating policy
* Leadership skills and charge nurse or nursing educator experience preferred
* Dress code: Navy scrubs required for RNs; undershirts and jackets must be white, navy, or black only; no hooded jackets or sweaters
* Nail policy: no artificial nails or nail polish permitted
* Hair must be off shoulders and natural color
* Body art should be covered whenever possible
* Visible piercings other than ears are prohibited

This facility is the first hospital in San Antonio exclusively designed for child care, offering outstanding pediatric services across numerous specialty areas including pediatric heart surgery, pulmonology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, newborn and pediatric intensive care, oncology, and emergency services. The team is committed to family-centered care, recognizing that children require a unique approach to medical treatment. The pediatric emergency department is a fast-paced environment seeing approximately 200 or more patients per day, supported by a multidisciplinary team including unit clerks, pharmacists, technicians, midlevel providers, and physicians.
