Opportunity:
RN - Cardiovascular Progressive Care
Job Details:
* Work on a 40-bed cardiovascular surgery stepdown unit (E4 - CVPC)
* Care for primary patient population including CV surgery and vascular surgery patients (open heart surgery such as CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR), thoracic lung surgery (lobectomy, thoracotomy), esophagogastrectomy, AAA (open and endovascular), fem-pop bypass, and carotid endarterectomies
* Also receive overflow medical cardiology patients with diagnoses including heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, heart block, and more
* Patient ratio of 1:5 patients per RN
* Perform and manage epidural management, chest tube management, tube feedings, IV glucommander, and cardiac drip management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine)
* Work with Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, and various lifts
* Use Cerner as the electronic medical records system
* Stepdown experience required
* Telemetry experience required
* Prior CV surgery and vascular surgery population experience within the past year preferred (open heart, TAVR, lobectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass)
* CVICU experience preferred
* Required certifications: ACLS and BLS
* Dress code: All navy, white tops/navy bottoms, or all white scrubs
* No on-call requirements
* Minimum of 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday day or night) per 6-week schedule period
* Flexibility to work holidays required
* Float to stepdown units (1:5 ratios), medical/surgical units (1:6-7 ratios), or ER inpatient holding area (1:6) as needed
* Team player who enjoys a fast-paced environment and is flexible preferred

This facility is a major regional medical center located in western North Carolina, providing comprehensive cardiovascular and surgical services. The cardiovascular progressive care unit operates with approximately 100 total staff members across day and night shifts, featuring dedicated charge RNs, patient care technicians, and health unit coordinators. The facility offers advanced cardiac and vascular surgical care in a collaborative, fast-paced environment focused on positive patient outcomes.
