PCU RN
Job Details:
* 13-week assignment with night shifts scheduled 4x12 hours
* Guaranteed 60 hours per 2-week period with the possibility of being called off for 1 twelve-hour shift per 2 weeks
* Weekend coverage may be more frequent than every other weekend and is subject to staffing needs
* Float required to lower acuity units, renal care, neuro, and medical-surgical as needed
* No on-call required
* Block scheduling not available
* Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility
* Minimum 1 year of experience required
* First-time travelers accepted
* Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
* Alaska RN license must be in hand prior to start
* Charting system: Epic (experience required)
* Scrubs provided by facility
* Parking is free
* Bedside RN patient ratio is 1:4; CNA patient ratio is 1:6
* Co-Care/Virtual Nursing Model utilized on unit - each patient has 1 bedside RN, 1 Virtual RN, and 1 CNA
* Virtual nurse works remotely and assists with admission, discharge, rounding, education, plans of care, and safety rounds
* Care for a wide variety of patient populations including cardiac (30%), respiratory, neuro, renal, and complex medical-surgical patients
* Cardiac patients include CHF, MI, post-TAVR, MVR, pacemaker, cardiac arrhythmia, drug load, Angiovac, and ACS patients
* Respiratory patients include COPD, asthma exacerbations, trach patients, chronic home ventilators, high flow nasal cannula, and BiPAP
* Complex medical-surgical patients requiring higher level of monitoring including ETOH withdrawal and GIB
* Required skills include BiPAP/CPAP management, cardiac telemetry, central line care, chest tube management, heparin protocols, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, IV insulin protocols, cardiac and vasoactive drip management and titration, tracheostomy care, TAVR management, wound care, and more
* Special equipment includes Philips Monitors in each room, Masimo Capnography, and safe patient handling equipment
* Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, lift teams, rapid response teams, pharmacy, transportation, and unit secretary
* Patients served are adults and geriatrics
* Must commit to working 3 of the 5 holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day
* All RTO and specific scheduling requests must be submitted upfront during the submittal process

This acute care hospital is a Magnet-designated facility and a Level II Trauma Center recognized as a top hospital in Alaska by U.S. News & World Report. With 407 total staffed beds, the facility provides comprehensive inpatient and specialty care services. The PCU is a stepdown unit from the ICU with a daily census of 36 beds, utilizing an innovative Co-Care/Virtual Nursing Model to enhance patient care delivery.
