Opportunity:
Surgical First Assistant
Job Details:
* Rotating shift schedule
* Minimum of two years of recent experience in field required
* Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) certification required
* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor required
* Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required
* Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience preferred
* Provide assistance to the primary surgeon during surgical procedures including exposure, hemostasis, tying or sewing, and other functions as directed
* Prepare and position patients for surgery and assist in visualization of the operating field
* Perform pre- and postoperative activities to facilitate optimal patient care
* Verify availability of surgical equipment and supplies and reserve equipment and implants according to surgeon preference
* Prepare and maintain operating room environment according to surgical procedure including temperature, humidity, lights, suction, and furniture
* Perform surgical hand scrub, gowning, and gloving
* Coordinate and participate in draping of patient
* Verify operative consent and other pertinent information including history and physical, advanced directives, and laboratory and diagnostic results
* Obtain diagnostic studies for reference and review tests to identify results
* Review patient medical chart and associated documentation
* Harvest surgical grafts, perform closure of incisions, and apply various wound dressings
* Work under direct supervision or within defined parameters
